Veerhouse Voda Builds a Burn Centre for Médecins Sans Frontières in Haïti

French Translation Veerhouse Voda, maker of disaster-resilient housing, emergency structures and community spaces, is announcing a new collaboration with Doctors without Borders/Médecins Sans Frontières (MSF) to upgrade its burn center in Port-au-Prince, Haiti. This is the second-time MSF has contracted Veeehourse Voda to upgrade one of its medical facilities in Haiti.

“We are pleased to help (MSF) to upgrade their current burn centre in Haïti,” said Veerhouse Voda’s Brendon Brewster. “This facility will contribute to decreasing mortality related to burns through the provision of higher quality burn care. This medical facility will be built with technology that is faster and more energy-efficient than traditional structures. We are pleased to have the trust of MSF to create this important facility”

MSF’s burn centre is located in Drouillard, near the capital, Port au Prince. At this center, medical workers treat a high number of severe burns—resulting from flames, hot liquids, hot oil, electricity, and gas—which remain a daily hazard in Haïti.

“The updated facility will improve access and quality of care for people suffering from burns in Haiti,” said Jean Hereu, head of mission.

The centre will include four new buildings spanning 1,621 square meters. The plan includes an outpatient department, inpatient department, isolation wards, intensive care unit and full hospital amenities, making it the first of its kind in Haiti. The MSF facility will also continue to offer mental health counselling and physio therapy.

The MSF burn centre is expected to be complete in 275 days, as Veerhouse Voda’s proprietary methods allow construction to be finalized five-times faster than traditional building methods. With the inclusion of EPS foam for Veerhouse Voda’s local factory in its building materials, the structure will be built at a significant cost savings and to Eurocodes standards as well. These benefits are seen across all Veerhouse Voda structures, which are ideal for a wide range of uses, such as disaster resilient housing, places of worship, community structures, commercial buildings, and emergency shelters.
